"A Computer Vision-aided Stereoscopic Laparoscope" and other collaborative proposals, 1993
Scope and Contents
This series focuses on Dr. Kanade’s work in the field of medical robotics, especially on the idea of telemedicine. The records document his collaborations with Dr. Anthony DiGioia, Shadyside Hospital, and other relevant research groups. There are also materials on the HipNav project, an early look at robot surgery. This series is divided into six subseries: Correspondence, Research proposals, Research materials, Publications, Presentations, and Legal/business matters; within each sub-series the materials are sorted chronologically. The research materials include mostly reference works on relevant medical robotics topics. The publications sub-series includes those authored by Dr. Kanade. The presentations sub-series includes a variety of overhead transparencies, slideshow materials, and other graphic figures used in presentations; in some cases these are unlabeled or undated, so the creator of the materials may be unknown.
For the purposes of searching and general context, researchers should note that the materials in this series mostly pre-date the legal separation of UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh and the purchase of several local hospitals by UPMC. Additional materials on collaborations with Dr. DiGioia, relevant research groups, and work with local hospitals can be found in the following series: Collaborations and partnerships; Meetings, workshops, and conference events; and Subject files.
